Helping learners to effectively communicate and a/synchronously collaborate in the digital realm
Today, roughly 70% of all communication among teams is virtual. Think of how many emails and text messages we send every day: do they all manage to convey the intended tone? No, they don’t! The lack of body language and physical presence in the digital realm makes it hard even for the most emotionally intelligent leader!
How can we help our learners land their digital message the way they intend, so as to foster connection and collaboration? But also, how can we do the same in our language trainer’s role?
During the workshop, we will explore:
- How several aspects of digital communication, such as the choice of the medium, words, use of emoji, punctuation, and response time generate meaning
- How the lack of physical body language can be digitally translated by enhancing interaction and by understanding the differences across generations, cultures and genders
- How to avoid misunderstanding while navigating a world of conference calls, video meetings, emails, texts and chats
Practical activities and a self-assessment test will help participants to be more aware of their digital communication and will give them the tools to transfer this knowledge to their learners.
