A. ARRIVAL AND TRANSPORT
Refugees can travel by train:
without a ticket, based on a Ukrainian passport or ID,
before crossing the border, they obtain a Schengen visa (stamp in the passport)
Train routes for refugees:
A Ukrainian passport, ID card or proof of residence can be used to travel to Berlin, Dresden, Nuremberg or Munich. A train ticket is not needed for the journey.
If further travel than these four cities is necessary, DB will give them a free helpukraine ticket to the destination. The ticket is valid for travel in second class and is available from a DB Reisezentrum (travel centre at a station) or a DB agency. When on a train, the Ukrainian document (passport/ID/proof of residence) is required during ticket inspection.

Individual cities offer free transport as well. A Ukrainian passport or ID is required during inspection. More information about local transport is available at individual city websites.
B. LEGAL ASSISTANCE, ASYLUM, DOCUMENTS
What if someone has no identity document?
The nearest police station must be contacted (these are present at all major railway stations) or foreigners authority. The map of local authorities is available here: https://bamf-navi.bamf.de/de/Themen/Behoerden/
It is not necessary to seek asylum, but after 90 days a residence permit is required (valid for one year).

Asylum Procedures
If temporary protection status can be received, do not apply for international (refugee) protection!
Register as an asylum seeker at a border authority, police station, foreigner’s registration office (“Ausländerbehörde”) or an initial accommodation centre for refugees (“Erstaufnahmeeinrichtung”). The word “asyl” (or “asylum”) needs to be stated, and the staff will know what is meant. After announcing a request for asylum application, one would be considered an asylum seeker. Then seekers would be taken to an initial accommodation centre for refugees to register. Or, a document and a ticket to go to such facility alone may be received. The document mentioned above is called “Anlaufbescheinigung”, and it shows that you have done the initial registration as an asylum seeker.

C. PETS FROM UKRAINE
Pet owners are allowed to enter Germany from Ukraine together with their pets without having to apply in advance for a permit.
Entrants are requested to get in touch with the local veterinary authority to determine the animal’s health status with regard to rabies and, where appropriate, to take relevant measures (isolation, antibody titration test, anti-rabies vaccination, microchipping, issuing of an identification document for the pet animal).
Persons and animal owners who are in contact with dogs and cats from Ukraine are requested to pay particular attention to hygiene measures in order to avoid any potential transmission of rabies.
