Using this paradox\, I explore how a ready-made curry sauce is comparable to a coursebook. Specifically\, a sauce is enhanced when extra ingredients are added. Equally\, coursebook activities and tasks can also be enriched and spiced up with the help of a distinct ingredient – crea tivity.\nThe majority of secondary school ELT contexts use a published cou rsebook as their prime source of input. Indeed\, most coursebooks come as a complete package\, founded on various teaching approaches and methods an d strongly supported by a clear rationale. There is usually a student’s book\, workbook\, teacher’s book and some have online resources\, a very detailed step-by-step commentary explaining exactly how to teach the cour sebook unit as well as expected outcomes and solutions.\nThe extensiveness of a package appears to be advantageous especially for new teachers. Howe ver\, as everything is prescribed are coursebooks actually hindering a tea cher’s creative potential? Does it restrict individualism and opportunit ies to foster creativity in the language classroom. Between our scores of years as teachers\, trainers a nd examiners we came to the collective decision that unless learners learn t by doing\, they learnt very little at all. Our choice fell on TBL/Task-b ased Learning methodology because it focuses on both accuracy and fluency in spoken English.\nThis talk will look briefly at the theoretical framewo rk of TBL and then will move on to show how it can be used and adapted to fit almost any EFL teaching situation. To do so\,  we aim to work through at least three of the thirty units that make up t he CertIBET programme.\nThroughout the afternoon\, we shall explore ideas and concepts behind what it takes to be a business English trainer. Betwee n them\, Ben and Michelle have a wealth of experience which they enthusias tically share with colleagues\, while enjoying the opportunity to also lea rn from their TDCI participants.\nThe TDCI approach is very much focused o n learner autonomy and self-regulated learning. Through the Cert IBET at E LTAS collaboration\, the plan is to build a community of practice that can be called upon for the duration of TDCI.\nProgramme: \nEnglish UK design ed and set up the programme and and Language Cert\, who moderates the fina l assignment\, accredits it. As such\, it icludes fixed elements - time in vested in working through and reflecting on the content\, and writing the final assignment. Normally\, the time limit is a full two years. Consequen tly\, with this solution the expectation is an earlier completion.
