ELTAS Summer Sizzler: A Recap of Our Workshop and Potluck!

June 29th turned into a real scorcher for the ELTAS Summer event! But that didn’t stop our members from bringing the heat – in the best way possible! We had a fantastic turnout for our Summer Workshop and Potluck. There were many familiar faces and even a warm welcome to two new members  joined us for the first time.

Despite the high temperatures, our ELTAS summer event went off without a hitch. The delicious dishes everyone brought to share were the real stars of the show! Members brought refreshing salads and light, flavorful finger foods, creating a perfect spread for the summer gathering.

First up!

Our keynote speaker, Rachel Paling, delivered an insightful and useful presentation on incorporating International Coaching Federation (ICF) Common Core Competencies into our English language teaching. Rachel Paling infused her talk with practical activities to engage the audience. Her focus was on key skills for teachers: being fully present with students, fostering an open learning environment, and truly understanding their communication. It was a great reminder to prioritize active listening and support student self-expression in our classrooms.

Second up!

Following Rachel, Jonathan Lobb, our Klett Sprachen representative, kept the momentum going with a Business Impact book teaser that left us all wanting more. He introduced a brand new publication – so new, it won’t be fully released until 2025! Jonathan gave us a sneak peek at the book’s content, highlighting aspects that would particularly resonate with ELTAS members. To top it all off, he announced a December workshop with the book’s editor. This workshop will dive into navigating their new online platform. This platform offers the unique advantage of purchasing the book in online module-based versions, which makes it a perfect fit for our online educators.

As the day drew to a close, everyone was in high spirits and eager for our next event. Mark your calendars for September 14. Thats when we’ll be hosting Michelle Hunter PhD for the first-ever Distance Cert IBET session in a hybrid format.
