BESIG was held this year in Barcelona on Nov. 13-15 and attended by a number of committee members. It was a great venue for networking and to gather ideas for future ELTAS event speakers and events. The Spanish sunshine and sangria wasn’t bad either!

We were looking forward to ELTAS-OUP Day and our workshop English 24/7 with Heather Buchanan (co-author of Navigate) on October 17th. Unfortunately, her flight from Leeds was unexpectedly cancelled at the last minute. Fortunately, Eltas members Michelle Hunter and Jennie Wright came to the rescue and delivered a practical swap shop of creative teaching ideas. Many thanks to Michelle and Jenny and to OUP’s Markus Dauber who passed out free copies of Heather’s book and organized a raffle.

The Eltas Committee met on October 3rd to discuss event planning, finances and website issues.

Dr. Ines Böhner from the University of Stuttgart offered insight into China in Beyond the Do’s and Don’ts. There was plenty of food for thought in the workshop and in the lobby too! Besides becoming more culturally aware, we enjoyed tasting some Chinese specialities.

robdeanWe started off the year on January 17th with the workshop “Technical English & Things to Do with the Back of the Book” skillfully presented by Rob Dean. We fed not only our minds, but also our tummies with a cup of warm soup and Pearson generously offered participants free books.

The workshop was followed by the annual membership meeting, (AGM). The committee was elected with Krystyna Key continuing as Chair, Katrin Beringer as Vice Chair, Ingrid Abele as Membership Secretary and Treasurer. Kevin Lilley was replaced as Secretary by Andrea Vogt-Nos. Peyman Sedighi also joined the team and will help Mauline Lawrence and Andy Yarahamadi in Event Coordination.
