SUMMARY:Blended Learning in English Language Teaching: making it work with 
 Pete Sharma
DESCRIPTION:Blended Learning (BL) is a key concept in ELT. We know ‘why
 ’ we want to blend: to combine the best of the classroom with online lea
 rning. However\, BL is notoriously difficult to implement successfully. On
 e reason is the regular emergence of new digital materials\, tools and lea
 rning platforms\, which make it difficult to know ‘how’ to blend.\nThi
 s workshop consists of two parts: part one systematically explores the con
 cept of BL\, its roots\, and what the research says. It examines the chall
 enges for teachers and identifies a successful formula for ‘making Blend
 ed Learning work’. Part two provides practical ideas for implementing BL
  in language courses. The afternoon finishes with a presentation on future
  developments such as adaptive learning and virtual reality\, and an open 
 forum to discuss issues raised. Participants will leave with a useful fram
 ework to help them make informed choices\, as well as ideas for using new 
 technology in their own courses.\nPete Sharma is a training manager\, cons
 ultant and ELT author. He has spent his career largely in business English
  and is now a pre-sessional lecturer in EAP (English for Academic Purposes
 ) at Warwick University\, UK. Pete is a well-known conference presenter. H
 e has co-authored several books on using educational technology in languag
 e teaching. His latest book as co-author is Best Practices for Blended Lea
 rning (Pavilion Publishing and Media 2018).
